There are five different species of Rhinos!

         The African species are the ‘Black’ rhino and the ‘White’ rhino.

         The Asian species are the ‘Greater One–Horned‘ rhino, the ‘Sumatran’ rhino and the ‘Javan’ rhino.

Rhino horn is made of Keratin, a type of protein that our hair and fingernails are made of!

Javan and greater one-horned rhinos have a single horn, whereas all the other rhino species have two horns.

9 out of 10 Indian Rhinos are found in Kaziranga National Park.

Rhinos give themselves a protective 'mud coat’ to keep them cool, and protect themselves from insect and parasite bites.

Male rhinos are called 'bulls' and females are called 'cows'.The young ones are ‘calves’.

September 22 is celebrated as WORLD RHINO DAY to spread awareness about the different species of Rhinoceros and the dangers they face. This day aims to urge people to protect these animals, as Rhinos have become critically endangered in the wild due to poaching and habitat loss over many years.

So, we at Myskool thought of doing our bit to celebrate this day by creating awareness among our little readers who are going to grow up to be responsible citizens of tomorrow.
