WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DAY

WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DAY

September 26 is globally commemorated as World Environmental Health Day with the objective of creating awareness about the significance of environmental health professionals. The World Environmental Health Day was founded by The International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) at a meeting in Indonesia on 26 September, 2011.
According TO IFEH, environmental health plays a crucial role in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring peace and prosperity for everyone by year 2030, which were adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015.
The theme for year 2022 is ‘Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of the SDGs’.

ABOUT IFEH:

IFEH came into existence in 1986 and it’s  headquarters is in London. It has 44 member states and it was formed with an intention to raise awareness about the environment’s health.

Significance:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), healthier environments can help prevent one quarter of the global burden of disease. Clean air, sanitation, hygiene, stable climate, adequate water, protection from radiation, safe use of chemicals, healthy and safe workplaces, sound agricultural practices, and a preserved nature are some of the prerequisites of a healthy environment.

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.
- Mahatma Gandhi
