One day, the mother of one of my students came to me and asked, “You have started a personality development programme for kids but at this stage they hardly know anything about personality, what to say of personality development programme!”

And I answered, I acknowledge your question and concern but personality development happens with each passing day and the earlier a child starts developing the character skills and personality, the easier it becomes for him/her to climb the ladder of Success in future and stand out of the crowd.”

People consider personality development to be synonymous to dressing up in fancy, extravagant dresses, wearing branded accessories and carrying new hairstyles, but the truth is that none of these aid in personality development.

So, what is Personality Development?

Personality is a characteristic way of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Several researches suggest that we can change our personality traits and become the best version of ourselves that exhibits confidence and self-esteem, good etiquettes, an aura of uniqueness and what not, ultimately accounting for the overall personality development of an individual!

But is there a magic wand for developing a personality like that? Let’s find out…

  1. Know that You are Unique- Every individual born on the Earth is unique. Even the identical twins portray different characteristics. Just polish your God-gifted talents and try to learn new hard/soft skills.

  1. Develop Communication and Body Language- Communication plays a pivotal role in putting your opinions in front of others, try to be an assertive communicator with a positive body language.

  1. Introduce Humility as a character skill- Lao Tzu, a famous author said, “All streams flow to the sea because it is lower than they are. Humility gives it its power.”

Be humble and meek, start practising words like ‘Thank You’, ‘Sorry’ wherever and whenever required.

  1. Groom and dress yourself properly- Learn to dress up neat and tidy, maintain your haircuts/hair tie-ups, keep your nails trimmed and follow a proper body hygiene.

  1. Celebrate small wins and don’t get disheartened at small defeats- Set your goals and take baby steps towards them steadily, congratulate yourself at every level and celebrate your wins. Also learn from the bad experiences and develop strategies to overcome such problems in future.

  1. Develop hobbies- Introducing yourself to recreational activities would help in exploring new interests. Having hobbies like singing, dancing and playing a sport, creative storytelling or writing would help you stay balanced, energised and deal with stress.

Always remember if you have the will-power to achieve your goal- You will undoubtedly achieve it!
